Rules for Using the Photos: a Simple Guide for Users

Licence: CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (Attribution, NonCommercial, NoDerivatives)

What does the licence mean?

A licence is a kind of permission to use a photo according to certain rules. The photos are covered by a licence that allows you to use them, provided you meet a few simple requirements. It is important to always follow these rules: they let the photographer protect their rights and let you use the photos legally.

What are the rules for using the photos?

  1. You may share the photos, for example on your Facebook profile:

    • Feel free to post the photos on your Facebook account or page, but you must always credit them properly. This means naming the author of the photo.

  2. You may not use the photos for commercial purposes:

    • The photos in the galleries are available for personal use. They may not be used to make money. This means you may not sell them or use them in advertising or any other commercial activity.

  3. Do not modify the photos:

    • The photos must remain as they are. You may not edit them, add effects or change them in any way.

Image rights:

  • If you post photos of other people, make sure you have their consent to publish them. Posting someone's photo without consent may expose you to legal consequences, including claims for the protection of their image.

A simple example: how do I use the photos on Facebook?

Let's say you have found a beautiful photo in a gallery and want to post it on Facebook. How do you do it in line with the licence?

  1. Download the photo from the website. Use the “cloud with a down arrow” icon: on the thumbnails it is in the bottom right corner, and when viewing one photo per page it is in the top right corner.

  2. Post it on your Facebook profile or page.

  3. In the photo description, write for example: “Photo by Sebastian Bogdanik”.

Done! Now everyone can enjoy the photo, and you have met the terms of the licence.

Why does it matter?

Using licensed photos lawfully is a sign of respect for the creator. Photographs are work that often takes time, talent and effort. This licence lets you enjoy the photos free of charge while protecting the artist's rights.

Remember: do not use the photos for commercial purposes, and always credit the photo.

Feel free to use the photos and share them with your friends!
